Yellow Submarine

1 oz.

white rum

1/2 oz.

dark rum

1/2 oz.

golden falernum

1/4 oz.

agave syrup

3/4 oz.

orange juice

5 dashes

xocolatl mole bitters


lemon peel

Throwing it back with this rum cocktail to 1968, a time when the Beatles released this catchy little tune, “We all live in a yellow submarine… yellow submarine, yellow submarine!”

I won’t bore you with my love for the Beatles (they are pretty much the greatest band of ALL TIME)… Instead, I will tell you how delicious this cocktail is.

Initially, you will experience a tart lemon citrus on the nose. Once you take your first sip, you’ll discover that this cocktail is well-balanced, yielding to notes of chocolate (attributed to the bitters) along with almond and ginger (thanks to the Golden Falernum).

Not only does this drink taste amazing, but it’s incredibly easy to make! All you need to do is combine all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice – shake, strain and serve.

I also encourage you to taste the Golden Falernum on its own before adding it to the cocktail. It’s a complex rum-based liqueur bursting with a variety of flavors. Take a moment to read about it here. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

How to Make:

  1. Combine all ingredients into the base of your Boston shaker
    filled with ice
  2. Seal and shake until well chilled
  3. Strain into a rocks glass
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist
