Fireside Chat - a smoky cocktail perfect for cold days


1 3/4 oz.

Dark rum

1/2 oz.

Fernet Branca

1/2 oz.

maple syrup

4 dashes

orange bitters

Glassware & Tools:

  • Rocks Glass

  • Boston Shaker

  • Swizzle Spoon

  • Jiggers

  • Hawthorne Strainer

A new smoky cocktail creation that is just lovely during winter months. Featuring toasted rosemary, complimented by dark rum, Fernet Branca, maple syrup, and orange bitters. You’ll discover layers of flavor – beginning with smoky, lending to herbal, and then giving way to a gentle sweet finish.

This is simply perfect to sip on when snow is falling and there’s nothing to do but curl up next to the fireplace and chat the evening away.


How to Make:

  1. Toast a rosemary sprig with a blowtorch on a heat-proof surface. You may also use lit a match and rotate the sprig above the flame until lightly toasted  (releasing a bit of smoke), then set the rosemary sprig down on a heat-proof surface. Once the sprig is releasing smoke, place a rocks glass over the sprig allowing smoke to fill the glass. Set aside as you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Combine Dark Rum, Fernet Branca, Maple Syrup, and bitters into a mixing glass (or the base of a Boston Shaker) and stir with ice until well chilled.
  3. Place a large ice cube in the rocks glass that you prepared
  4. Strain liquid from the mixing glass/Boston Shaker into the rocks glass
  5. Garnish with toasted rosemary sprig
